Woolworths has had to reduce its opening hours again after a significant number of staff members have been forced into isolation, with the local community rallying around the staff to thank them for their hard work during lockdown.
The store had to close at 2pm on Monday but will be open from 8am to 10pm on Tuesday before resuming normal trading hours of 7am to 10pm on Wednesday.
"As a result of the continuing impact of COVID-19 in the Katherine community, many of our team members are isolating in line with Health Department advice," the spokesperson said.
"As a consequence, we don't have enough team members available to operate our normal trading hours and full in-store offering.
"We understand this is frustrating and regret the impact it is having on our customers."
Online ordering has been paused and the deli and bakery have closed.
Community members have expressed their support for Wooloworths workers on social media, thanking them for their hard work throughout the lockdown.
"You guys are doing a great job. Was awesome to see the shelves full and so many staff working hard to keep supply up in such a tough time. Thank you to all of you!" one Facebook commenter said.
"Keep the hard work up Woolworths. I was impressed to see how hard everyone was working the other day- with the shelves stocked up- considering our lockdown," said another.
