Katherine Town Council's River Cam, which takes regular photos of the level of the Katherine River against the railway bridge, has been out of action since 2.19am, when a storm with a significant amount of lightning rolled through.
A number of rivers, including Katherine River, are on flood watch as a result.
In a Facebook post, Katherine Town Council said they were working to fix the River Cam as soon as possible.
"Please be advised that the Katherine River Cam is currently inoperative," the post reads.
"We endeavour to have this issue rectified as soon as possible."
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the Katherine River is steadily rising.
At 9.45am, at the Katherine Bridge, the river was at 2.09 metres high.
