A Katherine man has been arrested over an alleged serious domestic violence incident overnight.

According to NT Police, the 39-year-old man allegedly assaulted his female partner around 11.30pm on Tuesday night at a residence in Katherine.
The alleged victim was taken to Katherine hospital in a stable condition while the man allegedly fled the scene.

He was arrested a short time later by police.
He is expected to be charged later today with aggravated assault, armed with an offensive weapon and engaging in conduct in contravention of a DVO .
Detective Sergeant Jeremy Brunton said investigations were ongoing, with police speaking to a number of witnesses.
"Domestic violence has no place within our community and police would urge anyone who is the victim of domestic or family violence to reach out on 131 444, or in an emergency call 000," he said.
