Patrons and visitors have to pay to use the toilets and baby changing facilities at Katherine Central as of today.
Adults are being charged $2 to use the amenities, and $1 each for children.
Adults accompanying a child will not only have to fork out $1 for the child but also $2 to get into the toilets themselves.
Parents who want to change their baby’s nappies will also have to pay $2, however, Katherine Central centre manager Mario Boscaini said babies would be free of charge.
Mr Boscaini said the decision to pay a fee would remain a permanent fixture as a response to “concerns that have been raised by the community in respect to cleanliness and safety.”
He said the money raised would be donated to charity or local Katherine community organisations.
