If elected for the Palmer United Party as the candidate for Lingiari, I will listen, and work to implement much needed and overdue services back into our communities, with supported community driven ideas and solutions.
I am committed and genuinely devoted to making a difference in the community, working in unity with Indigenous and Non-Indigenous community members to make a real difference and develop the highest quality programs that benefit all people in our communities.
“I understand the importance of working in unity with community and developing strong community based programs including, better outcomes regarding Youth, Education, Employment, Health, Social Inclusion, among the many other factors that impact on our quality of lives.
What are your key policies?
Palmer United Party stands for and is committed in its efforts and vision to carry out the following functions:
• Party officials should not be lobbyists, thereby taking a strong position on paid political lobbyists, saving tax payers dollars and introducing fair policies
• Abolish the Carbon Tax
• Revising the current Australian Government’s refugee policy to ensure Australia is protected and refugees are given opportunities for a better future and lifestyle
• Creating mineral wealth to continuously contribute to the welfare of the Australian community.
This will be achieved by utilising mineral resources from Queensland and Western Australia, and incentives from the Commonwealth of Australia to establish downstream processing in the States of Victoria,
New South Wales and South Australia; and exporting products at a higher dollar value, thereby creating more revenue, jobs, tax and more facilities.
• Establishing a system where people create wealth in various parts of the country and for that wealth to flow back to the community that generates the wealth.
For example, if a particular region creates wealth, a significant percentage of that wealth should go back to the region.
How do you plan to create opportunities for economic development in Katherine and the region?
The current bureaucracy of the Australian Government services with its red tape and inability to function in an appropriate manner causes shame and consequences that impact heavily on real Northern Territory families and communities.
There is a real need to have accountability in Government again; making sure it is held responsible to delivering on its promises.
We can also not accept the failure of governments to commit to an urgent plan of action.
It is not acceptable to continually state that the situation is tragic and ought to be treated with urgency, and then fail to put into place bold targets to focus policy making over the short, medium and longer term or to fund programs so they are capable of meeting these targets.
I also believe that listening to, and involving community members is a key element often overlooked by governments and needs to change.
What is your stance on the live cattle export industry?
The live export industry is an important part of Australia’s economy and growing and supporting the development of the livestock industry in rural and regional Australia is extremely crucial.
The Australian cattle export industry is recognised as having the world’s highest animal welfare standards for livestock
export and there needs to be better balance with more effective consultation mechanisms.
Australian live export operates under strict regulations and should stay committed to maintaining Australia’s world leading reputation, however, for this to continue policy must be developed that maintained confidence in the Industry and allow equal consultation from all areas involved.
There needs to be a greater clarity and shared understandings on, responsibilities and adaptions of regulatory powers to assist identify and address gaps to ensure more effective government dealings with animal welfare matters throughout the livestock export supply chain to maintained confidence.
