Gates will open on the 2015 Katherine Show on July 17, with the event shaping up as one of the biggest ever as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
With the campdraft, equestrian and cattle judging events already underway, more than 15,000 are expected to converge on the Katherine Showground over the two main days of action.
While attractions like the grand parade and sideshow alley will draw big crowds of excited patrons, Katherine and District Show Society show officer Courtney Golding said more than 1000 volunteer hours had gone into ensuring the milestone event offered something for everyone.
“Behind the scenes, the Katherine Show has a volunteer committee of up to 12 people who oversee the show,” she told the Katherine Times.
“An estimated 1000 volunteer hours go into putting it together.
“Previous committees and volunteers have been planning for the 50th for some time.
“This year, the show fell on the centenary of the Anzac landing in Gallipoli, so we introduced the special Anzac section and the response has been great.”
As part of the 50th birthday party, a Guinness World Records attempt will be made in the main arena on Friday, with more than 600 people needed to ensure the record gets set.
On Saturday night, the sky above the showground will explode for the second time in as many weeks as the official schedule winds up with a spectacular fireworks display.
