The council is required to have two representatives and an alternative for the division, and it quickly became apparent at last week’s ordinary council meeting that several elected members were keen to experience being involved with development assessments for the town.
Alderman Henry Higgins, who is currently the council’s alternative, told the meeting he would “like to get off the bench and into the game”, while Alderman Peter Gazey said he would also be interested in becoming one of the representatives.
“I actually like the idea,” Alderman Miller said.
“I’m quite happy to step back.”
Current two-term representative Alderman Steven Rose, who said he would “dearly like to stay there”, will become the council’s alternative after he garnered less votes than Alderman Higgins and Alderman Gazey.
Lands and Planning Minister Dave Tollner is expected to endorse the council’s nominees by July 30.
