With runners coming from as far afield as Melbourne for the Katherine Multi Sports Club event, organiser Allirra Ludwig said she wanted to see more locals lace up their shoes and test themselves over a five kilometre, 10km, 21.2km or 42.4km course.
“There’s been a lot of interest; I’ve even got some runners coming from Melbourne,” she said.
“My main idea of having Run the River is having the big running events you see down south that we don’t have in Katherine.”
They don’t have to run the entire way; they can walk and run, or just walk; I had mums and prams last year.

Ms Ludwig added that the event was not just for regular marathon competitors.
“It’s all-inclusive and just about having a go.
