Portraits and words will paint a picture of strength, resilience and adaptability of women in the Northern Territory’s Katherine region.
Deadline is now approaching for women to share their stories of living in the Northern Territory for a joint publishing project between author Toni Tapp Coutts and Katherine Museum manager/curator Simmone Croft.
On International Day for Women in March next year the pair will launch What a Woman, a book featuring local women.

“The focus of the women’s stories are on territory life; how they cope with isolation, the cultural aspects of life here and their involvement in the community,” Ms Croft said.
“A lot of women in Katherine have done some amazing things to better life here through working on committees, local government, not-for-profit groups and health and education.
“This book will be a celebration of their achievements, as well as a way to document the importance women play in our community.”
Stories are still being sought.
Women are welcome to write their story – up to 1200 words - and submit a photograph.

The original deadline is tomorrow, December 1.
However, Ms Croft said late submissions will be considered.
Even if your story doesn’t make it into this volume, it may just appear in the next.
“We’re hoping to make sequels of the book; to put out a volume, one, two and three over the coming years,” Ms Croft said.
All people whose stories have been entered will receive a free copy of the book, and copies will be supplied to the Katherine Library, Territory Library, NT Archives and the National Library.
The museum is also pleased to announced that a second book, titled Fall of the Daisey Cutters, will be released in March.
The book delves into the events of the bombing of Katherine and will be released in time for the 75th anniversary of the Japanese raid on March 22.
The title has taken more than a year of work to complete.
