A new 2017 issue YXZ1000R SS SE, could be just the ticket for those Mallee sand hills and remnant HRZ mud pits.

This is the real-deal in on-farm fun with a 1000cc three-cylinder engine with an aggressive 11.3:1 compression ratio and a 10,500rpm redline.

Combine that with the paddle shift transmission and you’ll feel more Ayrton Senna than farmer Joe.

The sport shift technology is a 5-speed sequential shift transmission with an automatic clutch system linked to paddle shifters.

So like your loader in shuttle mode, there’s no need to use the clutch pedal and that means you can keep the size 11 on the metal during shifting.

There’s also a new launch system - exclusive to the Sport Shift - which is similar to dropping the clutch in a manual during a bit of circle work and delivers the same joy you feel when Essendon finishes dead last.

The Special Edition (SE) YXZ1000R SS also gets Fox 2.5 Podium X2 shocks.

These are good for going fast and slow. Not that you’d go slow. They are also good for various terrain - so sodic clays, self mulching loam and non-wetting sand.

There’s 411 millimetres of front and 432mm of rear travel to soften landing blows when you unleash your inner Crusty Demon.

Yamaha’s On-Command system provides 2WD, 4WD and 4WD full diff-lock options in a driver controlled system, so you don’t get pesky computer generated hesitation or slipping.

There’s also electric power steering (EPS) for precise handling.

Sooner or later you’ll also need to stop the beast - probably when you are called in for dinner.

The YXZ1000R SS SE does this via four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes with twin piston calipers.

Inside the side by side, there’s no lunch box tray or cup holders, but there are embroidered contoured high-back seats, tilt adjustable steering and insulation to help keep the cabin cooler from all the horses out back.

There’s a digital speedometer, old fashioned analogue tacho, programmable shift light, readouts for 4WD mode, gear position, fuel level, trip meters, hour meter, coolant temperature warning and a clock.

Like you’d be looking at any of this.

Even the colour scheme is fast with matt black and red dominating.

There’s full under-frame protection covering the bottom of the vehicle from front-to-back and side-to-side which allows it to glide over obstacles during a bit of bush work.

It’s available for $32,999 inc GST so you’ll need to fill a few extra bins to justify it.
