The photo, snapped by Esther Almendros in July last year while swimming at the thermal pools, received over 5000 likes on the social media app.
Uluru dominated the list with five of the top 10 most liked photos of the year, while NT sunsets and sunrises also featured heavily in popular photos.
Acting Tourism and Culture Minister, Eva Lawler, said the pictures sum up the Northern Territory.
“The Northern Territory is known for its beautiful sunsets and clear skies whether you’re sitting on Mindil Beach or taking in some of our great natural landscapes like Uluru, Kakadu and Kings Canyon,” Mrs Lawler said.
Tourism NT is now calling for Territorians and visitors to show off the NT to the rest of the world with the new ‘Snap the NT’ travel photo competition.
To enter your photo to Instagram and in the comments section, describe in 20 words or less why it’s special to you. Be sure to tag Tourism NT’s Instagram @AusOutbackNT, and use the hashtags #SnaptheNT and #NTAustralia.
Don’t forget to send your favourite photographs to the Katherine Times as well, where we will be conducting a competition each month to choose the cover picture for a Facebook page.
The winning photo of #SnaptheNT will receive a $500 gift voucher from Camera House, redeemable nation-wide.
The competition starts on Friday and closes on January 27.
