The former Katherine farmer has worked hard to build support for his group called “Katherine Mental Mates”
Katherine mental mates is an initiative to get people in sporting organisations in Katherine trained in mental health first aid.
Australia Day Awards were also presented to the Katherine Men’s Group for the “Community Event of the Year”.
Cameran Kossack has won “Young Citizen of the year”
Mayor Fay Miller and alderman congratulated all recipients and noted the enormity of the task in selecting the winners when there were so many deserving individuals nominated.
As well a number of new citizens took their Oath of Allegiance, and Australia Day Awards for Katherine Town Council were presented at the Ceremony held at Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre today.
Fourteen new citizens were welcomed by Mayor Miller at the ceremony to mark the beginning of the Australia Day celebrations in Katherine this year.
Multiculturalism was very much alive and well as we welcomed new citizens from Philippines, the United Kingdom, India, Sri Lanka and Ireland.
Following the ceremony Mayor Miller invited all attendees to reaffirm their commitment with their own Oath or Affirmation.
Katherine MP Sandra Nelson provided the keynote speech sharing her story as a former refugee through to her election to the legislative assembly.
The community then heard from Australia Day Ambassador Jake Gablonski. Jake, a Katherine local and an R U OK? Day Ambassador shared his experiences with depression.
