Katherine and District Show Society executive officer Suzanne Sinclair said it is time to start planning ahead to July.
“People need to start thinking about what they want to enter because time will go quickly,” Ms Sinclair said.
Locals can enter a range of craft, art, pet, cooking and agricultural competitions.
“There is a competition suitable for everyone, whether you are two or 100 years-old,” she said.
“Giant pumpkin growing is always a fierce competition.
The retirement of our expert sponge cake makers means it is anyone’s game this year,” Ms Sinclair said.
The ‘battle of the sexes’ cake competition, see winners from the ‘sheilas’ and ‘blokes’ cake class, fight it out for the perpetual trophy.
The ladies lead in the annual event, taking 10 trophies to the blokes six.
“Blokes need to get in to gear and start winning again,” Ms Sinclair said.
The Katherine Show has run since 1965 and works to bring together many strands of the region.
Last year more than 17 thousand people flocked through the gates at the Katherine Showgrounds.
The 2017 show starts with a huge range of equestrian events on Wednesday and continues throughout the rest of the week with more ring events, judging and campdrafting.
Throughout the day showgoers will be able to browse a huge range of stalls at the pavilion or take the children along to see the farm animals, enter in a patty cake decorating competition and, of course, you can’t forget the show rides.
Ms Sinclair said residents should be starting to plant their gardens soon.
“Keep in mind that your patch will need to be well drained, especially if you’re planting during the wet season,” she said.
A new agriculture competition will be tried this year ‘vegetable or herb garden in a wheelbarrow’.
“It doesn’t have to be a wheelbarrow; any portable container that you can wheel or carry will suffice,” she said.
Admission to the show on Wednesday and Thursday is free to all members of the public.
Friday and Saturday are "Show Days" with the much anticipated Rodeo to be held on Friday and Saturday nights.
