About 50km north of Katherine, the mine is owned by US-based Vista Gold which says Mt Todd is the largest undeveloped gold project in Australia.
The open day will include transport to and from Katherine, a tour of the site, the water treatment facilities, an explanation of the gold deposit and Vista Gold’s plans for the future.
Mt Todd began its annual wet season release of treated water on January 17 and stopped on February 15.
The company has pumped 1.5 gigalitres of water which is about how much water the area stores during the year.
Last year Vista Gold was able to release 1.47 gigalitres of treated water.
Mt Todd was mined in the 1990s until 2000 when the then owners went into receivership and the NT Government was forced to take over management.
Vista Gold is now exploring the site, and future development is largely dependent on rising gold prices.
“Acid rock drainage” contained in large pits on site are continuing problems at Mt Todd.
