Katherine driver Carl Wienards and his supercharged Toyota Celica will be one of the drawcards at the Katherine stand on the Supercar weekend.

Local revheads are already anticipating the opening night of the Katherine Speedway, being held on May 27 this year.

Mr Kelly said he believed there were a lot of interest right across the territory in the supercar weekend.

“I thought we should have the Katherine name out there as well, there’s a lot of interest in motorsport here,” he said.

There will be two nights of entertainment announced for the Race and Rock concerts at Hidden Valley in June.

Australia’s biggest Hip Hop success Hilltop Hoods will ignite the stage on Saturday night, joined by Melbourne rapper ILLY.

NT Major Events general manager Andrew Hopper said the entertainment would add an exciting element to an action-packed weekend.

”The Supercars weekend generates great exposure for the Northern Territory as a tourism destination and provides a boost to the local economy.”
