This was the core message from the Department of Defence and NT Government officials at the first of three meetings on the town’s chemical contamination issues today.
A community leaders forum was held at the Tindal RAAF Base although only Mayor Fay Miller was in attendance for the start of the meeting.
Katherine MP Sandra Nelson was contacted and arrived midway through the meeting.
The public will have their opportunity to hear from defence and other experts at two meetings this after.
The first, at about 2.30pm, will be livestreamed on Facebook by the Katherine Times.
Concern was expressed at this morning’s meeting about the community being unnecessarily alarmed because of the Katherine Times’ reportage of the issue.
