The much repaired and graffiti-covered steel toilet in Ryan Park is being dumped, possible within a few months.
Katherine Town Council chief executive Rob Jennings on Monday night said a buyer would be sought for the park’s second toilet but it was unlikely to be relocated.
“It is dead,” he said.
Mayor Fay Miller said it was time for action on the issue of town’s public toilets.
There are three of the once highly favoured automatic toilets in the town, in the park, Giles Street near the post office and a third, seemingly in the best condition, at the Visitor Information Centre.
Tourists have been complaining about their cleanliness, and the fact they are often broken.
Mayor Miller said Katherine’s constant high temperatures were also a problem for the toilet’s occupants.
She said the council is hoping to include money in next year’s budget to look into the toilet problems.
Alderman Toni Tapp-Coutts said the council had inherited the toilet problem and had spent large amounts maintaining them.
