“Clyde Fenton School was opened in July 1977, and we are celebrating our 40th Anniversary in 2017,” assistant principal Donna Capes said.
The school’s captain and vice captain acted as masters-of-ceremonies at a special assembly this morning and offered insight into the school’s history.
“In its first year the school had 320 students and 23 staff,” school captain Toby Gardiner said.
“During the 1990s students were involved in restoring Clyde Fenton’s plane,” vice captain Erin Gordon said.
Former and current students, parents and staff enjoyed music by the school’s choir, a traditional smoking ceremony and a great rendition of house war cries.
Principal Jeff Parker said the school community had been resilient over the years and thanked all those involved who contributed to making Clyde Fenton Primary School great.
“I teared up during those house chants because they showed the passion and dedication people have to the school,” Mr Parker said.
“I like to think of Clyde Fenton as a family,”
Assistant principal Donna Capes spoke about past student Luke Kelly who now plays for the Rabbitohs and his sister Stevie Kelly who competed at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland for wrestling.
“Students from Clyde Fenton have well represented the school, on a Territory, national and international level,” Ms Capes said.
“It is the people who make this a great school.”
After the assembly visitors took a trip down memory lane, touring the school and feasting on a giant birthday cake.
