Mayor Miller said the holiday had been booked well in advance of the the final dates being announced for the NT local government elections.
The Electoral Commission will tomorrow afternoon announce the distribution of preferences and late counting of postal votes to decide the election of the six aldermen at the town council.
It appears certain on primary votes that former aldermen Toni Tapp-Coutts and Peter Gazey and perhaps Elisabeth Clark will be among those to return.
The final election result will be announced on Monday.
Mayor elect Miller said she was travelling overseas with a friend for a month and would miss the first council meeting on September 12 and the swearing in ceremonies.
“I have never been to Europe before, it has been planned for a long time and I do wish I could be here for the meeting but our CEO Rob Jennings will chair it.”
The deputy mayor will be elected from that first meeting.
She said she was humbled by the support of the Katherine community and was pleased no “rash promises” had been made during the election campaign which would be difficult to meet.
