The 22-year-old man was airlifted to hospital in a stable condition yesterday after his truck-and-two-trailers tipped in an accident involving livestock about 100km north of Elliott.
It’s understood a passenger was able to exit the vehicle with minor injuries while the driver was trapped until help arrived.
CareFlight, who operate the Top End Medical Retrieval Service on behalf of the Northern Territory Government, tasked a King Air turbo-prop aircraft shortly before 7am with a flight doctor and flight nurse aboard.
At the scene, a medic from a local mine responded and provided initial treatment.
Further help arrived soon after from Elliott’s health clinic staff, volunteer fire brigade and Territory Police, who were all able to free the man from the wreckage.
This allowed the Elliott clinic staff to drive the man to the Elliot Clinic.
After further assessment by CareFlight, the crew were able to transport the man to Royal Darwin Hospital, with the help of St John Ambulance, in a stable condition at 4.20pm.
