Alderman Tapp-Coutts said she will fight for council’s support for the iconic graffiti at their council meeting on Tuesday night.
“I don’t believe we have asked the public what they think yet,” she said today.
“We can see through your poll there is a lot of support for keeping it.
“I think the mayor has stated her private opinion and I am stating mine.”
At issue is the retention of the “Jesus loves nacho” slogan on the Katherine railway bridge.
Of course it is part of that legend that the Tapp-Coutts family is somehow involved in changing the original “Jesus loves you” to “Jesus loves nacho”.
“I would prefer to keep it a mystery but yes a member of our family has admitted to being involved,” Alderman Tapp-Coutts said.
Alderman Tapp-Coutts has even registered Jesus loves nachos as a trademark.
“It is the Territory’s greatest graffiti icon,” she said.
She plans to raise the issue in general business at Tuesday’s council meeting and ask council’s support for pushing the Government to keep it.
“I was very surprised to hear Fay bringing this up, this has not been discussed by us,” she said.
