A treasured member of the Katherine community, Mr Lansdowne made countless contributions chairing the Katherine Show Society, the Bushfires Council and the Katherine Rural College board.
He also spent a period of time as the president of the Australian Farmers Breeders Association.
Katherine resident, Bob Wright was a long time friend of Mr Lansdowne.
First meeting through the Katherine Volunteer Bushfire Brigade, he said Mr Lansdowne was a “keen member of the Katherine area”.
“He put a lot of his time into helping the Katherine region.
“He was one of those people – everyone knew him back in those days – he’d turn up and always be helping someone out and being a perfect gentlemen.
“Never one to take accolades and the type of bloke not fussed about getting his photo taken,” Mr Wright said.
The Katherine Volunteer Bushfire Brigade headquarters, and building and roads at the Katherine Research Centre were named after Mr Lansdowne.
The morning tea will be held this Saturday at 10am at the Katherine Museum.
All friends, family and community members are welcome.
