Last year, 281 babies were born at Katherine Hospital, more than five per week, and Jack and Isla topped the list.
Coming in at a close second was Ace for a boy and Emma for a girl.
A recent Katherine resident, who has just moved to Queensland, is among those parents to opt for a top-of-the-list name for her baby.
Lauren Cadet gave birth to her third child at Katherine Hospital on May 31 last year.
My husband named her Isla after Isla Fisher the Australian actress. He is a big fan, likes all her movies, Mrs Cadet said.
I liked it, I think it sounds really pretty.
Mrs Cadet and her partner James couldnt decide on a name early on in the pregnancy, so she came up with a unique way to narrow it down.
We had a look through baby name books, but one of us would always associate the name with someone we used to know, or an ex, Mrs Cadet said.
So I told him to pick an actress and go through all of her movies to find a couple of names and then I would go through the final list and pick my favourite.
He picked Isla Fisher and went through all her movies but we kept coming back to the actress real name, Isla.
Mrs Cadet said she has only now started to see how popular the name is becoming.
I didnt think it would be so popular, but now it is popping up on personalised Weet-bix boxes, she said.
But it is better than giving her a name she cant spell.
And while the young mother of three is yet to meet other babies with the same name, she said she has seen a couple of her friends on Facebook opt for the name.
I am expecting to see it around a bit more. It is a beautiful little girls name and it suits our daughter so well.
She is a real princess and Princess Isla has really stuck, she said.
Ms Cadet has two other children named Oliver and Patrick.
