Photographer Paul Cazes was there to capture it using his 600mm lens. He posted the photos on the Kangaroo Island – Nature’s Paradise Facebook page.
Dennis Jamieson, Jayden Christophers and Josiah Bennett were the fortunate surfers.
Mr Cazes’ photos capture an eight-strong pod of bottlenose dolphins in the surf. The pick of them has Dennis looking directly at a dolphin through the wave.
“We saw them coming, was good fun though, they came back twice,” Dennis posted on the page.
The dolphins have been regulars at the Pennington Bay break in recent days and weeks with the Beach Barista also reporting seeing the pod of dolphins having a surf.
The south coast of Kangaroo Island is home to the offshore bottlenose dolphin, about which not much is known.
