The growing club's come and try days over the weekend attracted new riders of all ages who will be taking the next steps in preparation for racing season come May.
The club recently installed LED lights to enable night riding and training.
And on Saturday night celebrated the new addition with a honourary loop of the track.
More than 30 riders joined in with Wayne Stubbs, a long-term club member who was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer in November of last year, leading the pack.
"Stubbsy was the first over the line, the ride was a symbol of our unity and our support of a team member," president of the Big Rivers BMX Club, Steve Hoffman said.
Mr Hoffman, who took on the role of club president this year, said the goal of growing the club is becoming a reality.
"We had a really great turn out for the come and try day and we are confident we'll have about 20 new riders," he said.
"This provides greater opportunities for funding and strengthening our club and sport as a whole in the region.
"We had a goal to build this club and this is a firm start."
With a strong coaching structure and a solid base of volunteers, Mr Hoffman is confident the club will be a success this year for new and old club members.
"We'll be kicking off race season in May, so for the next couple of weeks training will be about assessing skill sets and making sure each rider is getting the appropriate training.
"We want to make sure each rider has the opportunity to learn as much as possible," he said.
With new lights bringing the Katherine BMX club to the standard of NT clubs - which have all long had lights allowing for night riding - riders will have more opportunity to train in the cooler hours of the day.
Training nights have jumped from two sessions last year to four this year, Mr Hoffman said.
"Riders will be able to train on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday nights and we'll have race meets on Thursdays starting in May," he said.
