After all, I only work one day a week. Should be simple, right?
What am I actually here for?
And yes, I'm aware don't care. I'm okay with that.
Here goes.
I told somebody recently that my role has two halves - I'm here mainly for the members of my church, to help them as they live for Jesus, and secondarily to the town to help them take Jesus more seriously.
A helpful person tried to correct me on this yesterday by asking surely I want people to take the church more seriously.
But that just isn't my concern, or my problem. Jesus is.
I'm not the town pastor. Or priest. Or chaplain. Or pastoral worker. And definitely not the town's 'father'.
You may not understand it, but my primary role is to keep helping Christians grow by exploring God's Word the Bible with them.
And you probably won't like it, but when I'm with people who aren't Christians, the thing I want most is for them to realise their only hope is Jesus.
After all, I've only got a day a week to do all this, you can't honestly want anything more.
St Paul's Anglican Church meets on Sundays at 9am with kids church. All welcome.
