Many local residents believed it should have been allowed to stay.
Especially with the surprising number of nomads who have defied warnings to stay away from the NT over the past week.
The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics has a policy prohibiting banners or signs from being hung from the old railway bridge, a spokewoman said.
"These are removed as soon as possible after the department is made aware of them."

The bridge has hosted more than a few anti-fracking banners over the past few years, because of its close proximity from the modern road bridge which funnels all traffic from Victoria and Stuart highways further north into the Territory.
"The banner was removed by the department yesterday and returned to the owner," the spokeswoman said.
"The owner of the banner was advised that they could make alternative arrangements with a private property owner if they wanted to hang the signage elsewhere."
