Citizen helps make arrest - second hoon in a week stopped in their tracks

This time a resident dobbed the driver in, and he was later charged with no having a licence, nor was the ute registered or insured.

This time it was a white Holden VS ute which was taken under anti-hooning legislation.

Last week it was a Toyota Landcruiser utility.

About 10.30am yesterday, the Holden ute was seen speeding on Riverbank Drive by a member of the public.

The vehicle was seen to do a burnout on Lucy Street in Katherine South.

The incident was reported to police.

Police identified the driver, went to his home and seized the vehicle.

The 19-year-old male driver was not home at the time.

Police alleged the driver does not hold a drivers licence and the vehicle was unregistered and uninsured.

He is scheduled to appear in Katherine Local Court at a later date.

Superintendent Daniel Shean said, "When the public observes someone doing a burnout and is willing to make a statement to police, police will seize the vehicle and deal with the driver according to the law.

"Driving at dangerous speeds in a 60kmh zone and doing burnouts pose a danger to other road users and potentially pedestrians. This sort of driving behaviour will not be tolerated".
