Police have arrested a man and seized large quantities of alcohol following liquor compliance checks in Gunbalanya, north-east of Jabiru, on the weekend.

Around 3am on Saturday , police were conducting a random breath testing station on Oenpelli Road.

A 41-year-old male driver tested positive for alcohol and was conveyed to the local police station where he returned a positive reading of 0.205 BrAC.

The driver was charged with drive high range blood alcohol content and drive unlicensed. He will appear in court at a later date.

Two passengers, a 39-year-old female and 29-year-old male, were found to have approximately two litres of alcohol in their possession.

They have been issued infringement notices for bring liquor into alcohol protected area and possess liquor in alcohol protected area. The liquor was destroyed.

Around 5.45am the same day, police conducted a vehicle search on Oenpelli Road and located approximately 11 litres of alcohol and 23 grams of cannabis.

The liquor was destroyed and the cannabis was seized.

The 18-year-old male driver was issued a notice to appear in court for transporting liquor into an alcohol protected area, drive unlicensed, and drive with no L plates displayed.

A 51-year-old woman was issued a notice to appear in court for possess liquor in an alcohol protected area and bring liquor into an alcohol protected area.

A 57-year-old man was issued a notice to appear for possess liquor in an alcohol protected area, bring liquor into alcohol protected area, and possess cannabis.

Senior Sergeant David Young said, "This was excellent work by our members who do all they can to protect our communities from the harmful effects caused by alcohol and drugs".

Meanwhile, Police also seized a quantity of alcohol in Galiwinku.

Around 5pm on Monday, police officers in Galiwinku conducted a search on a charter flight that had arrived from Darwin. The search located 11 bottles of spirits and a two litre box of wine in passenger luggage.

Senior Sergeant Michael Milde said, "This liquor had the potential to cause serious alcohol fuelled violence within the Galiwinku community, not to mention the damage to health and wellbeing of community members. It was revealed that the alcohol would be sold for $500 a bottle which also causes financial hardship to many families. Some excellent work by the local members to prevent it entering the community".

Investigations are ongoing.
