Kay Woodruffe, 52, appeared in court for a preliminary examination mention and was represented by the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency.
She is being remanded at the Darwin Correctional Centre and will appear again in Katherine Magistrates Court via video link for a second preliminary examination mention on August 24.
Woodruffe was charged with murder on May 12 and police allege she stabbed her 51-year-old sister with a star picket during an alcohol-fuelled altercation on the bank of the Katherine River, near O’Shea Terrace.
The victim was taken to Katherine Hospital but died soon after from her injuries.
