Shannon’s mother, Toni Tapp-Coutts, also plans to re-contest her position as an alderman.
Shannon’s great uncle, James Forscutt, also served on the council.
“I believe that as a younger person I have the ability to create a modern and open link between my community and the council,” Ms Coutts said.
“Being part of the largest demographic group in Katherine enables me to bring a youthful and updated perspective.
“I grew up attending council meetings and helping my mother in her election campaigns, from the age of six.
“I have decided to nominate so that I can be a young voice for Katherine.
“As our town and our society evolves and changes each generation is responsible for taking on the responsibilities of those before us.
“I am a stay at home mother to my first born son Logan, who is now fourth generation born in Katherine.
“My partner Terence, is a strong, supportive and well respected Indigenous man and provides me the grounding and belief that anything is possible.
“We have currently got plans underway to finally marry here in Katherine after 10 years together.
“My mother Toni will also be re-contesting and we will support each other wholeheartedly in this endeavour as we do in all other aspects of our lives.
“I would love to see council make improvements to current sporting grounds by providing playing surfaces to enable year round sporting events and the inclusion of club rooms and better parking facilities.
“An extension to the skate and water parks ranks high on the list of outcomes our community would like to see so I will endeavour to help see that through,” she said.
The NT council elections will be held on August 26.
