46 riders from Katherine joined 30 riders who made the trip from Darwin to try out the club’s new track and Big River’s BMX club committee’s Sue Sinclair said the new layout was given the tick of approval by riders.
“Everyone, without exception loved the track,” she said.
“Many people were amazed at such a high quality track, of course there are going to be improvements that can be made but that can be said of any track.
“It is ideal for both young riders as they can navigate the jumps, while still having some technical sections to challenge the more experienced riders.”
BMX coach and experienced rider Alex Cameron was on hand during the event to pass on some tips to young riders, a visit Sinclair said will benefit the club for the long term.
“It was great to have Alex here to see him in action as both a coach and a rider,” she said.
“He was also able to provide some insights to Katherine coach Nicky Thomson, so she will be able to pass her newfound knowledge on to any new riders who join.
“It also provided motivation and enthusiasm to the new riders as they could see the improvement after just an hour with Alex.”
BMX training occurs Tuesday’s at 5.15pm with racing to recommence on Saturday afternoons when final track work including fencing is completed in coming weeks.
