According to the plans lodged by Val and Terry Downes for the two lots near the Casuarina Street Primary School, the development includes residential lots open space and a small area for commercial development.
Stage one of the development was completed in 2015 and titles have been issued.
“In accordance with requirements for the development agreement and in light of the strong demand for the lots in stage one, the intention is to proceed with stage two,” design documents state.
“The design for stage two has been modified to take into account the demand for particular lot sizes.”
Some road widening will also be necessary.
Further development of this chunk of land at Katherine East would be hemmed in by freehold land to the east owned by the NT Government for land research.
The planning documents said the smaller lot sizes, of less than 600 square metres, had been popular in stage one and were expected to be popular again in stage two.
Six of the proposed lots are less than 450 square metres.
“The smaller lot sizes appeal to the young professionals and they are certainly more affordable.”
The public has until May 31 to comment on the plans.
