The grant is from upgrades to 15 local residential aged care homes and services through $3.4 million from the Federal Government.
“The new centre will bring together currently inadequate aged care resources with a new kitchen and laundry, which are currently in two separate shipping containers and refrigeration in the community hall,” Senator Nigel Scullion said.
“The new centre will also include a common area, female and male disabled access toilets, two offices, a covered veranda and wheelchair ramp.
“The new building will be purpose built, incorporating facilities under one roof, greatly enhancing the day resource service opportunities for clients as well as improving work conditions for local staff,” Senator Scullion said.
He said the funding would enable extensions, refurbishments and improvements at these aged care homes and services, under the Aged Care Regional, Rural and Remote Infrastructure Grants scheme.
