A passing motorist spotted the overturned vehicle off the side of the highway at 8.30pm.
The motorist then found and helped a 35-year-old driver who appeared to have been thrown from the vehicle.
Police said the driver was observed to have sustained serious injuries, but was conscious at that time.
Elliott Police, Health Clinic staff and Fire and Emergency Response crews attended the scene and the driver was transported back to the local clinic for treatment.
Tragically he was unable to survive his injuries and died earlier this morning.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The man's death brings the Territory Road toll to 15 compared to 28 this time last year.
