Katherine Town Council will consider the proposal at its meeting on Tuesday night.
The long-time council employee who had a great love of animals, Andrew Wilson, passed away in March.
Mr Wilson was a long-term Katherine resident and council employee with over 12 years of service to the Katherine community.
Council has been requested to name its new dog park within the Lockheed Reserve in his honour.
Mr Wilson spent a lot of his time making sure the new park was properly established.
Katherine's first dog park was officially opened by the Mayor of Katherine in late January.
Council has been told Mr Wilson's family has also supported a plan to plant a cottonwood tree within the park, in his name.
Mr Wilson began with the council in 2008 and worked across many roles including as a depot employee and ranger before taking up the role of manager of Environment, Compliance and Regulatory Services.
In this role Mr Wilson led the rangers in undertaking dog management, (introducing lifetime registrations and microchipping), the administration of relevant legislation, assisting with the control of noxious weeds.
Mr Wilson also managed the airport, the waste management facility, and council's environmental protection practices.
Mr Wilson was instrumental in a large number of key council's project's including upgrades at the airport, upgrading practices at the Waste Management Facility and, more recently, the installation of our community's first official dog park.
"He was a larrikin always making others laugh and was loved for his fun nature and a great love of animals.
"He was passionate about hunting and fishing and his lunch box was often filled with 'unusual' meals, mystifying some and hair-raising for others."
"On behalf of council I would like to extend my sincere condolences to Andrew's wife, Alison and their combined families following his recent passing," council CEO Ian Bodill said.
A service to remember Mr Wilson will be held at a later date when social distancing regulations have eased.
