The ever-popular Junior Rangers program is for Katherine kids between the ages 9 and 12, and is offered free of charge to Territory families.
The Junior Ranger program encourages kids to get out and about, discovering the great outdoors while they explore some of the beautiful parks and reserves in the NT.
Environmental education aimed specifically at children is an essential part of helping to appreciate and value the bushland around us.
Katherine children enrolling in the program must be able to commit to a series of 10 events during the third term of the school year.
"Being a Junior Ranger means having fun, getting grubby and making new friends while visiting new places and learning lots about yourself and your natural world," Community Engagement Ranger, Stacey Kessner said.
"This fun environmental education program has been getting kids out and about for the past 30 years, giving them and their family's essential skills and the confidence to take on the world.
"Becoming a Junior Ranger means following a great tradition, becoming an everyday environmental enthusiast and pint-sized pioneer."
Places in the program are limited and offered on a first in, first served basis.
If your child would like to be part of the Junior Ranger crew, enrollment forms and further information can be found here.
Alternatively, for forms to be emailed, contact stacey.kessner@nt.gov.au or collect them from the Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security at 32 Giles Street, Katherine.
