The 25-year-old Katherine man has made it into the top 10 out of an original line up of 22 contestants vying for an estimated $250,000 cash prize on the television show Masterchef Australia.
Lynton Tapp used his years of experience growing up on cattle stations to his advantage last week.
He pulled out his goat whispering skills, which gave his team an advantage in one of the episodes shot on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.
Lynton’s father, Ben Tapp, said his son had a natural ability with animals and it didn’t surprise him that Lynton was able to calm the goat.
“He has always been good with animals,” Mr Tapp said.
“He’s a really good horseman, and he started doing his vet course (at university) in Wagga Wagga.”
He said Lynton was an Australian juvenile campdrafting champion.
“He would have been 12 or 13 years old when he won it,” Mr Tapp said.
He said the family was very proud Lynton had reached the top 10 in the television show.
“He is handling himself well,” he said.
Mr Tapp said he watched the show two to three days a week to see Lynton put together fancy dishes.
Lynton grew up on the remote family-owned Maryfield and Mountain Valley cattle stations in the Roper Bar, about 230km south east of Katherine.
