Over 400 votes were entered in the public voting, which was held early this year at the Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre.
Katherine hobby photographer Jodi Bilske’s photo of the Katherine Gorge has now found a place on the fifth floor or Parliament House in Darwin.
Taking out the Local Member’s price in the photo competition, Mrs Bilske’s stunning river shot has been printed on canvas and was last week put up on Local Member Willem Westra van Holthe’s ‘River Corridor’ wall.
“It’s very exciting,” Mrs Bilske said.
“I’ve never had anything printed on canvas and I didn’t know what it would look like - but it’s beautiful.”
The hobby photographer, who has been taking photos for 1.5 years, said she took the photo of the Katherine Gorge 18 months ago and couldn’t resist entering it in the inaugural Katherine - You are Beautiful competition.
“It illustrates the beauty of Katherine,” she said.
Mr Westra van Holthe said he loved his new addition to his river corridor photo collection.
“It’s a beautiful photo and I never cease to be amazed at just how beautiful the Katherine region is and just how talented many of our local artists are,” he said.
And with one more spot left on the corridor wall and the second annual Katherine - You are Beautiful photo competition coming up again in September, local photographers are urged to get their camera gear ready.
Entries will open in mid September.
