Some pundits believe more than 2000 people will have voted before official polling day on Saturday in the compulsory election when you include pre-polls and postal votes.
There are total of 5630 people on the voter’s rolls for the Katherine election.
Four candidates have nominated for the Mayoral position with a further 12 nominations for the six council positions.
The pre-poll booth is located in the Oasis Shopping Centre which will remain open until 6pm on Friday, August 25.
On election day the voting centres are located at the Katherine Civic Centre, Macfarlane Pre School and Tindal Community Hall,” the spokeswoman said.
The voting centres will be open from 8am till 6pm.
In last year’s Legislative Assembly election in the NT, 62 per cent of all votes cast were at the early voting centre.
At the last Katherine council election in 2012 it was 24 per cent.
More than 11,000 people or 10.5 per cent of eligible electors have voted so far in the first week of polling at early voting centres in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Katherine, Coolalinga, Casuarina and at two locations in Darwin city.
“It’s great to see so many Territorians taking advantage of the convenience of early voting,” NT Electoral Commissioner Iain Loganathan said.
“Voting early means being able to vote at any voting centre whether or not you’re in your council area.”
