Katherine has won its first ever division one premiership at the annual Northern Territory Softball Championship held in Darwin on the weekend.

Katherine Softball entered two teams into this year’s championships, a division two and a division one team.
The Katherine division two side started the weekend off strong defeating Darwin in the opening game with an impressive score or 13-1.
Some great softball was played by the team throughout the tournament with home runs to both Susan Katherine and Sherry Ladd.
Junior Katherine player Kiesha Anderson also played a great weekend along with Cammie Delacoeur.
The division two side finished in third position after four games.
Division two player Zanaya Mayers was named in the NT Championship all-stars team at the final presentation.
The Katherine Division one side also started strongly winning their opening game against Alice Springs.
It took a while for the Katherine players to get use to the fast pass of an A grade game but dominated with final scores 7-2.
Katherine then played tournament favourites Darwin and lost both games.
Sunday morning saw Katherine again play Alice Springs with both team winning one game each.
The winner would go onto play Darwin in the grand final.
Both teams where playing hard and Tynisha Allwright was on fire with a 2 base and a 3 base hit with Katherine coming out winners 7-5 setting them up for a grand final match.
In the grand final, Darwin dominated in the first inning with a home run bringing in 2 runs.
Katherine came back with Hayley Ross putting the ball away for a 3 base hit scoring 2 runs, Darwin went and scored 2 more runs but then Katherine side kept them scoreless for the remaining 5 innings of the game.
Brooke McHugh was working hard on the mound while they came back inning by inning to get 1 run in front.
In the final inning Darwin had the last bat and needed 2 runs to win. With 1 out and the tying run on third base there was hard fast hit down to Jess Forrest on third base, she tagged the runner and throw to first for a spectacular double play to seal the deal for Katherine.
During the later presentation Mel Retchford was named as the best on ground in the Grand Final and was also named in the NT Championships All-stars team.
Katherine Softball has been competing in the NT Softball Championships in Darwin for over 20 years and on various occasion have won the division 2 title.
Katherine started competing in the Division 1 competition in 2010 and this year was the first ever grand final for Katherine which ended in the first ever premiership for Katherine.
