Top End Rehoming Group Inc coordinator Katrina Stafford said if you love animals but can’t commit to a 20 year relationship, this is the perfect job for you.
The rescue group does not have a shelter and instead relies on foster carers to open their homes to sick and unwanted domestic animals before they are found permanent homes.
Ms Stafford said fostering a pet is a great trial run if you want to adopt.
“The only way we can run is with foster carers. It makes the adoption transition really smooth because the animals have experienced a home already,” Ms Stafford said.
“We have about 100 careers in total between Katherine and Darwin. We take any help we can get, if people just want kittens for a short period of time you can nominate that.
“You can have a puppy for eight weeks, but if it doesn’t work out that is totally fine we can move the pet to another foster home. There is no pressure.”
Ms Stafford said the group is often contacted by vet clinics and pounds to rescue animals.
“There is a real need for it in the community, so we try and fill that need,” she said.
“If you want to be involved and you have never touched an animal before, we can help you through it. If you want to foster we just ask that you open up your home and love it like it is your own.
“The best way to get involved is by sending us an email topendrehominggroup@gmail.com or heading to our Facebook page,” Ms Stafford said.
