Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Malogorski from the Central Investigations Section said police conducted a targeted traffic apprehension on a silver Holden Commodore wagon in Katherine about 4pm yesterday.

“During a search of the vehicle, police located two large clip seal bags of cannabis, 20 two-litre casks of wine, five small bottles of wine, a slab of beer cans and 14 bottles of spirits.

“Information suggests the alcohol was destined for Kalkaringi.”

The man was charged with supply alcohol to person subject to prohibition, as well as traffic and drug offences.

“Police in Katherine will continue to target offenders transporting liquor and other illicit substances into remote Indigenous communities,” Detective Senior Sergeant Malogorski said.

“This amount of alcohol into an indigenous community would have created a great deal of hardship.”

He was bailed to appear in Katherine Local Court on January 22.
