Only five people attended a meeting today to push ahead with plans for Katherine’s CBD revitalisation.
Katherine Times ran a series of stories last year, highlighting the need for a solution.
A community forum was held in September to kick start a fix.
Improvements will include landscaping, signage in empty shop fronts, more parking and removal of graffiti.
Katherine Town Council CEO Robert Jennings said plans are moving along well.
“I spoke to the NT Government last week to see what funding would be availible to us, so we are priming them on that,” Mr Jennings said.
“It is not a matter of if we will get the money but when.”

Mr Jennings said there are also plans for an “Aboriginal experience” in the main street, which will most likely be a commercial venture.
“I think there is a lot of development opportunity in Ryan Park and our town square.
“Stickers from Tourism NT are almost ready to go and they will be put up in shop fronts. They should be ready to go by the dry season.
“They just need to be measured up and we need permission from business owners,” he said.
