The just detectable ‘Jesus Loves Nachos’ graffitied on the railway bridge coming into town is down to one word, ‘Nachos’.
Katherine alderman Toni Tapp-Coutts, who officially trademarked the icon, said it is going to take a lot of lobbying to get the graffiti back to its original glory.
“The bridge is owned by the NT government and it is heritage listed, so a lot of work has to be done.
“I will continue to lobby. I would definitely like to see it touched up.
“At the moment the NT Government is spending massive amounts of money revitalising Darwin’s CBD with arts, maybe they can spend a bit to revitalise the world famous graffiti.
Ms Tapp-Coutts said the graffiti is an important part of Katherine and it is time for the Government to take the right steps.
“Locals love the story of it. They tell it to their visitors.
“I want to keep the same design, but make sure it is bolder when it is touched up,” she said.
