At Kintore Street School’s 2018 Paralympic Day, students with additional needs from three schools battled it out in a range of fun sports.
In the end, however, everyone was a winner.
Blue, red and green ribbons of triumph were handed out in abundance.
“The focus is on having fun, everyone gets lots of ribbons and lots of prizes,” Kintore teacher Di Dorfler said.
“It is about participation, having fun and getting out into the fresh air,” she said.
The annual event is also an opportunity for students to be selected to participate in the Regional Athletics Day, happening in term three.
Paralympic Day is not just a chance for the students to participate in sport activities, it is also a confidence boost and an emotional boost.
“The students from the schools don’t get a lot of opportunities to win,” organiser Anthony Menheere said.
“It is mostly about enjoyment so we shower them with ribbons.
“We definitely see an increase in confidence, we see that in the classroom too.”
Over 20 teachers and volunteers made Paralympic Day a possibility.
The students had the chance to compete in basketball, a sack toss, races, long jump, and many more sports.
“It was really good to see other schools participating this year, it is much more fun with larger numbers of students,” Mr Menheere said.
