The Katherine Girls team, in danger of falling through the cracks with low numbers, has come up fighting with a 28/16 win.
“The girls defended their line well not letting in many tries and their attacking of the opposition line was outstanding,” coach, Jack "Kook" Gala said.
Not expecting to win last Saturday’s game, Mr Gala said the team were over joyed with their success.
“The women played better than I expected for their first 13-a-side game against a Darwin team that has been playing for years,” Mr Gala said.
“There are five teams in the NRL Dawin competition and now that they’ve won a game the girls are preparing themselves to compete next year,” he said.
Katherine teams: the Pink Panthers and the Blue Jays play against each other as preparation to compete as the Katherine Girls in Darwin competitions.
The team will be travelling to WA in late September to play in the Kununurra 9’s – a two day annual competition.
