Forecasts are for similar windy conditions as yesterday.
Emergency services issued a bushfire warning last night after multiple fires on the north-west of town.
An earlier fire near Stuart Estate which broke out about noon yesterday was at first thought contained and backburning had started.
Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service later urged Katherine residents affected by nearby bushfires to implement their fire plans.
Residents were last night advised of bushfires in the following areas;
• Bushfire at Stuart Estate behind Usher Road and Morey Road
• Multiple bushfires at the rear of Zimin Drive. Bushfires NT are working from the Stuart Highway behind the Power Station through to the townside of Florina Road.
A big thanks to Bushfires NT, volunteers from the Katherine Volunteer Bushfire Brigade and the Edith Farms Bushfires Brigade for helping out, emergency services said.
Wind gusts of more than 30kmh whipped up the fires which also caused a lot of smoke.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting more wind today.
Forecast winds are still expected to reach 25kmh.
“Winds southeasterly 20 to 25 kmh tending easterly in the morning then becoming light in the late afternoon,” the bureau has forecast.
A high over South Australia is directing dry and fresh, gusty southeasterly winds into the western Top End.
