Two big semi finals will be held on Saturday night.
After 12 games of the regular season, it was the Eastside Blues which reigned supreme again.
This powerhouse team already has the league’s record safely in its keeping and now has the chance to go one better with six grand final wins in a row – something which has never been done before.
The Blues finished the season unbeaten and saw off their best competition with ease on the weekend.
The Blues are up again on Saturday night in the second semi final against the Katherine Camels who finished a credible second on the ladder.
Katherine South Crocs will play against Beswick Bears in the first semi final.
The Crocs and Camels have been vying for “second best” mantle all year but the Crocs came up short against the Blues on Saturday night.
To their credit, the Crocs came within three goals of the Blues on at least once occasion but the Blues managed to put their foot down and record another easy win.
Final scores: Eastside Blues 13.14 (92) d Katherine South Crocs 6.7 (43).
The other two games were both forfeits.
The Eastside Blues have obviously retained the nucleus of the team from last year which created history with the five flags on the trot.
Interestingly, they took the record from the reconstituted Katherine South Crocs which had won four in succession before going into recess.
Last year they were simply too good for the Katherine Camels with their trademark quick starts to their matches.
The Camels will have to try something new this weekend to send some doubt into the Blues camp heading into the grand final on September 15.
It is worth noting the Tindal Magpies came away from the season in fifth, missing out on the wooden spoon.
