Corroboree Asia, which took place from August 27-30, is strategically important as it brings together more than 100 Australian tourism operators and approximately 300 qualified Aussie Specialist front-line agents from priority Asian markets including Greater China, Japan, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea and Indonesia.
These qualified Aussie Specialist agents actively sell Australia as the preferred long-haul destination to Asian travellers.
Department of Tourism and Culture Deputy CEO, Andrew Hopper, said Corroboree Asia is an important event to increase awareness of the Northern Territory’s key destinations, experiences and tourism products as well as grow The Territory content in international trade programs.
“Tourism NT participates in domestic and international tourism trade events to meet with key distribution partners including: product buyers, wholesale and retail agents, Inbound Tour Operators, destination marketing managers, airlines, business decision makers and travel media,” said Mr Hopper.
“More than 130 of these agents are from Greater China which is a priority market for the Northern Territory.
“Tourism NT hosted two familiarisation groups for a five-day first-hand insight into our region, with an East China-based group of agents visiting the Red Centre’s Alice Springs, Watarrka National Park and Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. A Southern China-based group is visiting the Top End, taking in Darwin and surrounds, Kakadu National Park and the Katherine region.”
Corroboree Asia provided a professional forum for Northern Territory sellers to train the qualified Aussie Specialist agents and strengthen their specific product knowledge. In addition, through familiarisation visits, the agents will have first-hand experience of various NT tourism products, enhancing their ability to promote and sell Australia when they return to mainland China.
Corroboree Asia is a biennial event, rotating between the East and West markets and is hosted by Tourism Australia.
